Snail Shop FAQ – still have questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I visit your shop sometime and shop there?

We are still strictly an online shop. You cannot shop with us in person. But you can order online and pick up the order in personx if you want to save on shipping. To do this, select "Pickup" instead of "Shipping" at checkout.

Can I have a photo of the snails I want to buy?

No - An individual snail photo shoot can take a long time. Depending on the species, you might have to wait an hour or more for them to venture out of their shell. There are too few of us to conduct photo shoots in addition to the hectic Slimeside shop routine (orders, caring for the animals, etc.). But don't worry, snails of the same species and color all look alike, and you can see photos of them in the shop. The only exception to this is the "adopt a snail" category (our rescue station), where the pictures may vary, as each animal may have different imperfections.

My snail is acting strangely? What should I do?

What would be strange for mammals might be perfectly normal for snails. To figure this out, you need to familiarize yourself with your pet, ideally before getting one. But sometimes you come across a snail spontaneously, some people find them and adopt them on a whim, etc. So what should you do if you don't know anything about snails? We offer a snail video call that you can book. Kris will answer all your questions, help you set up your terrarium properly, or advise you before purchase on choosing the right snail species for you. Because every species is different. You can also read the accompanying article on the blog: And of course, you can also watch our videos on YouTube. The newer ones are best. Older posts may already be outdated, as snail keeping continues to evolve. However, we are leaving the videos up there, as you can really follow the development there. You can also join our snail community. Here, snail keepers help each other. If you have purchased snails from us, you can of course also contact us directly with questions. If you think there is an emergency with the snail, then write a short email and describe your problem, supplemented by photos of the snail and the terrarium / box.

General shipping information

Part of my delivery was missing. What should I do?

Oopsie-daisy, sorry about that! A quick email with the order number and your name is all we need. But heads up – we ship larger orders in multiple packages. So first check how many tracking numbers you received.

I would like to order something else. Can I have it packed with my existing order?

Yes, no problem at all. Just place a new order and select pickup instead of shipping. However, please make sure to write in the comment field of the new order that we should add it to an existing order. And of course, this is only possible as long as the first order has not yet been shipped.

We are a company and can only pay by invoice. Is that possible?

Of course! That’s very easy. Just order from the shop and select “Prepayment/Bank Transfer.” You’ll automatically receive the invoice via email and can then pay by bank transfer. Please note that we will only ship your order once payment has been received. If you are a B2B customer and would like to purchase very large quantities, please email us at info@slimeside.de with all the details.

I would like to cancel something

Of course – just send a short email to info@slimeside.de and let us know which order you would like to cancel, including the order number and name. However, this is only possible if the order is not already on its way to you. If it has already been shipped, you will first have to return it and bear the shipping costs. As soon as it is back with us, we will cancel your order immediately.

Information on snail shipping

How long do the snails travel with the special courier?

As soon as you receive the email saying that your cute slime has been shipped, it will take one night to reach you. They usually arrive in the morning. Delivery to Austria can take a few hours longer. And to all other European countries, it can take up to three days. For Germany: In the vast majority of cases, the courier will be with you in the morning. But at the very latest, they must have delivered by 5 p.m. the following day.

Help, the snail courier still hadn't arrived by 5 p.m.!

First of all, don't panic. You received the tracking information by email. Now go to the courier's website (Zollblitz.de), enter the tracking number and check if it was left with a neighbor. Sometimes, but rarely, there are difficulties with delivery because, for example, no neighbors were available to receive it, no one was home, and there was no safe place to leave it that would keep the snails warm enough. Even in these cases, the reasons will be stated in the delivery log. In such cases, it will be delivered the next day. With snail deliveries, it is ALWAYS a good idea to leave a phone number so that the courier can call you if there are any issues. You can also call or write to the courier directly. You can find their phone number and email address on Zollblitz.de

The tracking for the animal shipment isn't working!

I know, I know, everyone is used to live tracking, like what DHL offers. But that's not how the courier works. You'll only see afterwards where your snails were delivered (even if they weren't delivered to you). Then you can enter the tracking number at Zollblitz.de and see which neighbor has them. So the number is only useful afterwards, not during delivery. It's useless to you then.

I ordered snails a week ago and they still haven't arrived.

We can reassure you on that, because one week is nothing at all. Hehe! After two weeks, you can give us a gentle nudge and write us an email (if you like). But you are also welcome to wait. Because you have bought an animal, not a T-shirt that you can quickly throw into a box, stick a label on it and say "Adios". Packing snails takes a loooong time. Not because we have to slowly chase and catch the snails through the bushes, but mainly because in winter the Styrofoam for the winter packaging has to be cut, the heat pack activated, the snails first moistened (so that they come out and their health condition can be checked), food for the animals cut, etc. In summer when it is over 30 degrees and in winter at -5 degrees, we also see if the weather situation settles down a bit again, because we do not want to risk that the animals have an unpleasant journey. Or worse yet – die. We want to minimize the risk that anything happens. Our mortality rate was 0 last year. This is only possible because, thanks to our years of experience in packing snails, we pack each animal individually based on its species, the weather conditions (including heat packs of varying strengths), and different thicknesses of Styrofoam. Animal welfare comes first and we want to take as little risk as possible. And we are also a little proud of that, because we are the only shop with an additional courier and so much experience in packing snails. Furthermore, animals are not shipped before the weekend or before and between holidays. This is for two reasons: 1. we thus minimize the risk that they get stuck somewhere and have to be stored somewhere over the weekend and 2. the price would be so high that no one would pay it anymore. Last but not least, it is also the case that only one person packs snails here (you know – because of the experience in packing snails). So if you order, for example, around Christmas or New Year's Eve and many other people are also ordering, but only one person can pack and on top of that with winter packaging and the many holidays, the waiting times will naturally always be longer. For the sake of the animal and yourselves, it is better to order in October than shortly before Christmas.

My child is already very excited and asks about it every day. When will it be shipped?

Anyone who keeps snails as pets needs one thing above all: patience. As we are a small business and also run a rescue center – sometimes 400 animals arrive at once – it simply takes a little longer than you might be used to with Amazon. So the package is not always with you the next day. Especially when we pack and ship animals. We take the time we need, particularly then. Kris, who has four children herself, says: see it as an opportunity to explain to your child that good things take time and that animals are not ordinary goods that you just quickly put in a box and “off to the post”; and that we have many orders that need to be packed, which is handled by only a few people. Sometimes the name here really is fitting – it’s the Slimeside of life. Because even when you have your cute little slugs with you, it means having to be patient again and again. Snails often need 3 days underground to acclimate, especially when they are small. That’s why we explain to our customers that we are not an ordinary shop, but one where sensitive and slow animals travel, and that this happens as gently as possible.

The courier simply dropped off the animals without my permission.

Yes, we were. Because in winter or midsummer, it is not beneficial for the animal if it is taken back. That is why the courier has been instructed to leave the animals if you are not at home (which is generally not a problem) – provided there is a safe, sheltered place for them in your residential area. This can also include neighbors. In this way, we minimize the risk of anything happening to the snails due to exposure to cold or heat.

Payment information

What payment methods are available?

We offer a wide variety of payment options—Klarna, PayPal, bank transfer, credit card, and many more. So simply choose your preferred payment method at checkout. For bank transfers, you can pay either “Slimeside” or “Kristina Buckley.” If you still experience any issues, please send a short email to info@slimeside.de. If you pay by bank transfer, please remember that your order will only be shipped once payment has been received. If payment is not received within a certain period, the order will be automatically canceled.

Rescue Center FAQ – still have questions?

Do you still have capacity to take in snails?

Just send them to us. You can find all the information you need under the "Rescue Center" section. There are also two videos there showing you how to package the animals properly—one with instructions for winter and one for summer. You can also find the address there. Don't worry—you don't need to write long emails explaining why you are giving up snail-keeping, that you can no longer manage due to illness, or that you found a snail in your supermarket salad. There is no need to feel guilty, and we won't blame anyone or be surprised. You can feel free to send them to us.

Which day would be best for me to send the snails to you at the rescue center?

Monday is best, and with DHL. NO DHL Express – it is not reliable enough. So Monday is best – but only if there are no public holidays between Monday and the weekend. DO NOT ship before weekends or during extreme temperatures. Consequently, not in midsummer when it is over 30 degrees, and preferably not when temperatures are below freezing. They survive best when it is at least 12 degrees during the day and at night.

Can I also drop off the snails in person?

Yes, sure, Friday would be best. That’s always our big feeding day, so there’s usually someone on site. If no one happens to be there (for example, if we’re on a break, arriving late, or just picking up the food), she can simply leave it at the door or on the table under our Slimeside company sign. We’ll find everything there.
